This 5th course will give hands-on experience with neural data analysis for PhD students and young postdocs. Participants with either theoretical or experimental background are equally invited. Participants may have a theoretical background with interest in analyzing biological (or simulated) data, or they may come from an experimental background, interested in new ways of analyzing their data. **Participants must have ample programming skills in Matlab.** Most analysis tools have to be programmed by the individual participant, under the guidance of tutors. Participants should show interest in model-driven analyses and be open to theoretical approaches to data analysis. Likewise, they should be interested in the practical analysis of real biological data. Credits (2 ECTS) are granted to PhD students where applicable. Acceptance of credits is subject to the rules of the respective graduate program. Number of participants : 16\\ There will be a non-refundable participation fee of 50 Euros, payable immediately after notification of acceptance. **Topics** · Analysis of post-synaptic events · Short-term synaptic plasticity · Spectral analysis · Neural tuning and decoding · The **prelminiary course schedule** is [[Course Schedule | here]]. **Preparatory reading material** is [[Course Modules | here]]. **Faculty** * Clemens Boucsein · Albert-Ludwigs-Universität and Bernstein Center Freiburg * Jan Grewe · Ludwig-Maximilians Universität München * Alex Loebel · Ludwig-Maximilians Universität München * Martin Nawrot · Freie Universität Berlin **Application** Please send your application with the following material to * your CV * a statement of your motivation for wanting to take this course, and how the course will be important for your work or research program. * a brief description of your programming skills and experience with Matlab **Deadline:** Dec 20, 2012\\ ** Organization **\\ Clemens Boucsein\\ Albert-Ludwigs-Universität and Bernstein Center Freiburg ** Local Organization **\\ Monika Volk, LMU München\\ Thomas Wachtler, LMU München\\ ** Host **\\ Andreas Herz, Thomas Wachtler\\ German Neuroinformatics Node (G-Node)\\ Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München\\ www.g-node.org\\ **Local Address**\\ LMU Biocenter\\ Großhaderner Str. 2\\ 82152 Planegg-Martinsried\\ Course Room C 00.005\\ //{{:g-node_directions.pdf|Download map and directions [pdf]}}// **Funding**\\ The German Neuroinformatics Node receives funding from the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF)
